KIUNGA, WESTERN PROVINCE — Bank South Pacific (BSP) Kiunga Branch has given a major boost to digital literacy at the Cross Country School of Excellence with the donation of 10 laptops, a printer, and a WiFi router on Wednesday, 22 January 2025.
The school, located in the North Fly District, is a STEM-focused institution and was one of two schools selected by BSP Kiunga as part of its 2024 community project.
Ecstatic head teacher Elias Wranga welcomed the donation, noting its importance for project-based learning and practical education. “This donation is very timely,” he said, adding that the equipment will support five key areas:
- Teaching students ICT literacy.
- Enabling students to conduct online research for STEM projects.
- Using online platforms and apps to enhance teaching and learning.
- Assisting teachers in researching and preparing lessons.
- Providing teachers with ICT skills they currently lack.
Wranga highlighted that the donation will facilitate a hybrid learning system, allowing brighter students to potentially advance two grades in a year using these digital facilities.
He expressed gratitude to BSP staff for supporting STEM education at both early learning and primary levels and acknowledged the contribution of some bank staff who are parents of current and former students.
“This marks a significant milestone in ten years of STEM education at our school,” Wranga added.
The Cross Country School of Excellence continues to lead in integrating science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education in Papua New Guinea’s Western Province.
