WHILE many new oil and gas project talks take the centre stage in Kiunga, North Fly District of Western Province, one thinks that human resource developmentmust run parallel to harness the natural resources, thanks to Mr.Peter Kelau who offered his piece of land to establish an early childhood school.
By far Government does not take care of the education of the children from ages 2-5 years old.
However, the formative years are very crucial for the learning to take effect when the minds of the children are innocent and ready to learn. The parents take the sole responsibility in enrolling children in such schools. The aim of the school was to keep the little children occupied while parents do their daily business.
The initiator of the school, Elias Wrang has been an advocate of early childhood education.
“It has been identified in the mainstream education that students who do not have any exposure to early childhood have learning difficulties. Teaching is completed but learning is minimal for many students.
Hence, creating a lot of learning gaps. Teaching is congested, learning is forced, motivation is less and academic performance is poor,” Mr Wranga explained.
